Amateur Night at the Looney Bin / Open Mic Night
Here is some research for one of my bucket list items – I want to do a comedy set, I would hope that I’m funny enough for a full set like a professional, but since I know we all have to prove ourselves I guess I will settle for a Open Mic night – don’t worry, one day you will have the chance to see me at comedy clubs everywhere!
What it takes to make it on the stage – Little Rock has a comedy club that offers opportunities for even someone like me to get on stage! And the name is the Looney Bin, for those of you who know me - how appropriate is that?!?!? lol!
The Loony Bin Comedy club holds an open mic show before the pros take the stage every Wednesday night of every month, excluding special events. Each participant must sign up in person at 7:00 PM; there will be a drawing for the following week.
Now, I need to find a free Wednesday night, actually, I guess I need 2 free Wednesday nights in a row… While I’m working on that, let me ask you – on my list I also have to stage a comeback for my character Doctor Pepper who was created when I was in the 11th grade. She spoke on mainly sex, since that is what 11th grade topics tend to veer toward. But I was pondering, if I wanted to REALLY pull out the stops, wouldn’t it be better if I had a character that I could grow with and to have new material for on a regular basis. My thought was to tag myself as “The Preacher’s Wife” that said, searching that online pulls me to the Whitney Houston movie, so what would be a comparable option? Thanks in advance for any help you can offer!
